Our coaches are committed to making the club season an encouraging, positive, and rewarding experience for all involved. They have a deep wealth of knowledge and experience, both playing and coaching, and look forward to sharing their love and passion of the game to their players.
Jeff Kost
Club Director
Jeff is returning for his seventh year with the club and fourth year as Club Director. Growing the club and making the program stronger for all youth in the area is a goal for Jeff as he looks at ways to expand the reach of the club. Jeff enjoys working in the district office at the Marion Independent School District supporting students and staff in a variety of ways from enrollment to technology. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife Samantha, daughter Charlotte, and the family dog Molly.
Sam Kost
10u Head Coach
Sam played school and club volleyball throughout middle school and high school. She has been with Marion Magic for over 10 years. Previously, Sam was a coach for many years, then became the club director, and then moved back to coaching where her passion lies. Sam enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff and daughter, Charlotte.
Sam Nielsen
12u Head Coach
Sam played both school and club volleyball throughout high school. She then went on to play at the University of Dubuque throughout college. She continues to play in local leagues in the Cedar Rapids Area. Sam began coaching with Marion Magic in 2021. She recently got married and enjoys taking her dog for walks, traveling and doing crafts.
Brooke Davis
13u Head Coach
Brooke played club and school volleyball throughout middle school and high school. She continues to play sand volleyball during summer. Brooke enjoys spending time outdoors (especially boating during the summer) with her husband and two children.
Melissa Gustas
14u Head Coach
Melissa played school and club volleyball throughout middle school and high school. She coached for Marion Magic while in college at the University of Iowa and last year returned to coach our 13u team. Melissa loves working out, cooking and spending time with her boyfriend, daughter, and their two dogs and cat.
Heather Blazek
14u Assistant Coach
Heather played school and club volleyball throughout middle school and high school. She continues to play on local league teams as often she can. Heather enjoys doing all sorts of crafts and messing around with all sorts of art medias.
